Howard CDM was hired to build the first California showroom and office space for Kvadrat. A leader in innovation, Kvadrat produces quality contemporary textiles and textile related products for architects, designers and private consumers across the world. Kvadrat was established in Denmark in 1968 and has deep roots in Scandinavian’s world-famous design tradition. The 3,125 SF Los Angeles showroom builds on a concept that Ronan and Erwin Bouroullec created for Kvadrat’s flagship showrooms in Copenhagen, Denmark and Stockholm, Sweden.

This wooden E-shaped house incorporates work zones on its tip level and a social area at its heart, with meeting rooms on the ground floor. Adorning the walls are bold textile panels, featuring a unique graphic knitted design created by Erwan Bouroullec.

The transformation of the space from a warehouse to a textile and acoustics showroom + office space also included:

  • An exposed precision-cut Douglas fir heavy timber mezzanine system installed with mitered joints and hidden dowels for a smooth, clean finish
  • Douglas fir wood flooring, window frames and 12″ wood base with a natural finish throughout the mezzanine to match heavy timbers
  • Douglas fir wood stairs with bleacher-style seating
  • Offices + conference rooms with interior walls + ceilings clad with Softcell Acoustic panels
  • 15′ high steel shelving system spanning 76′ across the side wall allowing for textile hanging and display
  • Custom lighting package including leather belt lighting by Flo’s and Node track lighting flush with acoustic panels
