CALIFORNIA SCHOOL OF THE ARTS - SAN GABRIEL VALLEY

The public charter school, California School of the Arts – San Gabriel Valley (CSA-SGV) opened in August 2017. Over 700 students, grades 7-12, travel from Los Angeles, Orange, San Bernardino and Riverside counties to study dance, acting, writing, music and more in one of the 10 arts conservatories offered.

The CSA-SGV campus scope of work consisted of 52,454 SF of modifications to six existing buildings: two classroom wings, one administration building, one cafeteria/kitchen/locker room building, one gymnasium and one theater building plus an additional 8,280 SF of new relocatable buildings for dance studios, classrooms and restrooms.

To convert the administration building into the music wing, all interior walls were demoed, electrical and fire alarm systems were rerouted, and the ceiling was removed in the band and choir room to expose the structure and provide a greater ceiling height. The cafeteria was converted to the commons and administration building through demo of most interior walls, existing serving station, and storage areas to build team rooms with glass storefronts throughout. Other tenant improvements included demo for the new teacher’s lounge, media lab and prep room, new chemical resistant flooring, re-grading for a laydown yard in the theater building, and new electrical.
