VACA AT THE BEAUDRY
| LOCATION: | LOS ANGELES, CA |
| OWNER: | BROOKFIELD PROPERTIES |
| ARCHITECT: | STUDIO UNLTD |
Located at the base of a residential high-rise in downtown Los Angeles, Vaca is designed as a retreat from the energy of the surrounding city. The interior transforms the existing footprint into a sculptural environment inspired by the natural contours of an underground cavern. Flowing curves and carefully layered lighting work together to draw guests through the space, creating a sense of movement that feels both intimate and immersive.
Howard CDM transformed the existing 3,809 square-foot ground-floor retail space. The scope of work included the incorporation of an existing mechanical area and the removal of four tandem parking spaces to create approximately 780 square feet of food preparation space. New non-bearing partition walls, restrooms, a full-service kitchen, bar, and outdoor patio areas were introduced to support the restaurant’s operational and experiential needs.
The design reflects Chef Amar Santana’s bold, expressive approach to Spanish cuisine, with each element intentionally crafted to foster warmth and connection. Textural materials play a central role, including handmade Mexican Cotto tile that adds richness and visual depth. In the kitchen, deep saffron-toned tile wraps the walls, carrying the warmth of the dining room into the back-of-house and reinforcing the seamless relationship between food, space, and craft.
